Toll Circuits Cut When Lines Fouled

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. Nov. 16. A high tension power cable, which fell across telephone lines near Dannevirka about 10 a.m. today, cut toll circuits from Wellington and Palmerston North to Napier and Gisborne. A Post Office spokesman .said this afternoon that by 11 a.m. there were 25 calls waiting and by shortly after midday there was a backlog of 56 calls. Calls to Napier and Gisborne were routed through Auckland and Hamilton, but there was considerable delay.
