CONCERN AT DEFAULTS
Strict Check By Centre
Athletics defaulting from their events in the Canterbury Athletic Centre’s Saturday competitions will be subjected to strict scrutiny for the next few weeks. Last evening’s meeting of the executive committee of the centre decided to attempt to find out which clubs are the worst offenders with most default in proportion to their entries. Mr C. C. Goldon told of the greet amount of time wasted every Saturday calling for athletes who did not appear. It seemed that many entries were made by club secretaries and that the athletes themselves were ignorant of this, said Mr Goldon. Mr E. B. Strand suggested that athletes should enter their own names each Saturday on the list of events for the next week. On behalf of the executive’s programme committee. Mr E. Lunn saifl that such a system would present difficulties in compiling the programme. The meeting adopted Mr K. S. Jameson’s suggestion that a strict check should be made for the next two weeks, and offending clubs should be written to.
