PARADE OF FASHION

Function At Pegasus

“We make no apology for staging a mannequin parade in a naval atmosphere,” said Mr A. R. Mackay, introducing “A Spectacle of Fashion” at H.M.N.Z.S. Pegasus last evening. Attended by more than 250 guests, the function was held to raise funds for the T. S. Cornwell building and the Girls’ Nautical Training Corps. The parade was organised by the Sumner-Redcliffs subbranch of the Navy League of New Zealand and the Girls’ Nautical Training Corps. It was sponsored by several tans and fashion houses.

Introducing the eight models, the two comperes, Betty Carl and Peg Johnson said that garments being shown had been designed to cater for all types of age and figure from 17 to 70, for the smallest to the largest sizes.

Garments and designs had been directly obtained from leading fashion houses throughout the world. Specially adapted to New Zealand conditions, new models ranged from the newest in casual summer beach and sportswapr, to the near Winter office (&ess, racegoing ensemble and evening gown. There was no particular emphasis on any one shade, although pastel tonings, browns, cool white and the new pink now being worn overseas were noticeable. Many of the garments shown were of the new washable, uncrushable fabrics being introduced to this country. Light musical, vocal and pianoforte accompaniment was .provided during the parade by Shirley Miller and Rendall Miller.
