‘SEA LIFE’ STUDIED

W.E.A. Field Club Trip

Twenty-four members of the Workers’ Educational Association’s Field Club spent three days recently studying marine life around Kaikoura and Goose Bay under the leadership of Professor G. A. Knox, of the zoology department of the University of Canterbury. Members gathered specimens of plant and animal life, and paid a visit to the limestone caves in the locality, to observe stalactites and stalagmites in the process of formation.

Professor Knox also showed members over the marine biology laboratory which is being built at Kaikoura. The laboratory will provide accommodation for about 40 students, as well as cooking facilities, and a common room for social activities. The largest room will contain many tanks which will be supplied with water pumped from the sea for the study of every facet of marine life
