LOCAL BODY BOWLS

No City Officers To Play

Executive officers of. the City Council will not be playing in a local bodies* bowling tournament, the first game in which will be held at Dan-field on Thursday, December 14. When the Malvern County Council's letter proposing a tournament for councillors and executive staff members came before the City Council last evening, Cr. T. D. Flint objected to staff members having a day off to play bowls. “Councillors are free to do what they like, but the executive officers are highly paid and should not want another day off,” Cr. Flint said.

Cr. W. P. Glue then proposed that the invitation be accepted for a rink of councillors. ‘•Does Cr. Flint know of the tremendous amount of overtime worked by executive officers?” asked Cr. A. R. Guthrey. "It is a good thing in any commercial organisation to allow executive staff to mix socially in allied or competitive fields.” He was ruled out of order on the ground that the motion made no reference to executive staff. The council then accepted the invitation.
