Kills. : Although Simpson’s boat is the first to th* plan to have been built ta the South Island, the forerunner of the design—the original Hi Fl—has been saiting on Christchurch waters all this season. It was brought down from
Wellington and has been skippered by K. Frier, whose for’ard hand has been B. Wadman. Wadman recently returned to Christchurch after an extended tour of Europe and the United States.
Pennants L. McGrath aad B Ban* daD did well to finish fourth in the firat race of the Estuary Pennant serie* and lead, the Junior Cherub claa* to the line in their yacht Tippin. Competition in th* cits* haa been fairly open so far thia season With McGrath (Christchurch club)
and M. Bobeetaon and A. Raper (Mount Pleasant) each showing up on occasion& R&per won the pon* nant last season. Other championship winner* were B. E. Traleaven (R Class, Christchurch), A. BalUntine (Finn Class, Pleasant Point). J. Knight (catamarans, Pleasant Point), W. Famtt (Takapunas, Canterbury club), ». Walker (Frostplys, Mount Pleasant), B. de Thier (P Class. Mount Pleasant), and C. Inexon (D Class, Christchurch). With the exceptions of de Thier, who is competing in Finns, and Ineson, who now has a Junior Cherub, the pennant holders are all competing again this season.

model for others to follow. Holland and Mander have a fine understanding and skill which make a combination that in Canterbury is virtually unbeatable over a series of races in varying conditions. Both will be taking Frenzy to Wellington to compete in the national R Class contest for the Leander trophy on January 7. In the winter Holland is a footballer. He has captained Linwood senior from his position as a hooker for the last two years.
