S.A. Sanctions Plan Recommended
(* XfA-tW»M -CopyrtsM) NEW YORK. November 14. The United Nations Special Political Committee last night recommended the General Assembly to invoke diplomatic and economic sanctions against South Africa, and request the Security Council to consider expulsion of that State from the United Nations.

The committee voted by 47 to 33, with 22 abstentions, to draw the attention at the Security Council to article 6 of the Charter “for an early discussion of the continued membership of the Republic of South Africa in the united Nations." This article provides that a member which has "persistently violated the principles contained in the present Charter may be expelled from the organisation by the General Assembly upon the reeosnmendetion of the Security Council." The committee also recommended the Assembly to invoke diplomatic and economic sanctions against South

The committee then went cm to approve the long resolution containing these provisions. The vote on this was 55-38, with 30 abstaintag.
