Allegation Of libel
(NX Prase Area, Copttrwd) SYIXtEX, Nov. 13. A Now South Wale* parliamentarian had been libelled by a “dirty attack.” suggest, inf he bed prostituted his office by seeking advantage for himeekf and others. Mr J. E. Cassidy, Q.C, claimed in th* Supreme Court today. Albert Sto*. MLA, a former city council alderman, te seeking libel damage* against Associated Newspapers, Ltd, pdMUhec* at the “Sun.” Mr Cassidy (tor Stoss) said the newspaper suggested Stoss had need his position to obtain cheap flats in Wocboomoofoo for himself, his family and others. Stoss’s suit, which is being heard by Mr Justice Ooßins and a four-man jury, is being contested. Mr Cassidy said Sloes sought damages tor injury to his reputation caused by the publication of two derogatory articles in the “Sun.” The newspaper had a wide circulation in New South Wales and a particularly wide circulation in the metropolis, he said. The articles had been published on June 11, 1957, and eight days later. The latter arttole ‘‘carried on the dirty attack” that was made on Sloes on June 11. he said. Mr Cassidy described Sloss as “a man of the people and a man with strong principles and democracy.” The hearing was adjourned.
