CRICKET Motz Bowls Well In Drawn Natal Match
(Special Correspondent A_ZJ».A.) DURBAN, November 13. A fine spell of bowling by the medium-fast R. C. Motz, who finished with seven for 70 for a match analysis of 10 for 111, and a splendid 72 by K. Elgie were features of the final day today of the drawn match between the touring New Zealand cricketers and Natal.
Natal was all out for 167, mainly due to Mota’s good bowling. Left 150 minutes to score 193 for victory the New Zealanders never looked like getting the runs against a steady Natal attack backed up by good fielding. When the vice-captain. M E. Chapple, .appealed against the bad light 15 minutes before the scheduled close the New Zealanders were 108 for five.
G. T. Dowling's 20 was his best innings and highest score of the tour and be was shaping well until he tried to step out to R. Dumbrill. m’stiming the shot tor R A. McLean to take a fine catch a*, md-off J. W. Guy committed one of his rare indiscretions in timing a drive and was eaught by McLean off J. Cole.
P T. Barton batted well and powerful strokes brought him- four boundaries in 23 runs. Both S. N. McGregor and J R Reid seemed set until they were out. Reid appeared unhappy against the leg-breaks of M. Parsons and was eventually bowled off his pads. With five wickets down for 84 and 40 minutes left for pay. Cbapule and A. E. Dick bated determinedly and played out time.
Motz was in good form today and fully deserved success with his fast, accurate bowling on a pitch that was lively early. He claimed the first five wickets in 12 overs, conceding 33 runs. However, in one over be was inclined to be erratic and Elgie promptly took 13 runs with beautifully I timed shots through the covers. But in the end it was Motz who had the last say when Elgie, trying a big hit, mistimed bis stroke and was caught by F. J. Cameron. The fast bowler, G. A. Bartlett, gave his best performance to date. His pace was impressive and his direction deadly accurate. Cameron bowled steadily, making the ball swing both ways. while Reid. with cleverly varied deliveries, had some Natal batsmen
-playing with uncertainty. Motz, Cameron and Bartlett were no-balled 14 times between them for dragging and five of these no-balls were scored off. The fielding generally was good but two chances went astray. Dick missed stumping D. Gamsy off Reid and Chapple dropped Elgie at first slip off Cameron after Elgie reached 46. Scores:—
