SEVEN CARS CONVERTED
Three Youths For Sentence (NZ. Press Association I WELLINGTON, Nov. 14. Travelling from Lower Hutt to Auckland via Napier and then back to Taupo, between September 28 and 28, three youths converted seven cars, of a total value of £4435. and also broke into a butcher’s shop at Rotorua, said Detective Senior-Sergeant D J. Dwan in the Magistrate’s Court at Lower Hutt today Allan Bruce Dale, aged 20. workman, Dennis Albert Steffensen. aged 14 apprentice upholsterer, and Noel Kenneth McMillan, aged 17, workman, admitted each of eight joint charges. Mr Dwan said the first vehicle was taken from Lower Hutt and driven to Palmerston North, where it was abandoned. Another car was converted and driven to Napier, where another car was taken but It was abandoned while still at Napier. The youths returned to the second vehicle and this was driven to Taupo, where it also was abandoned. A taxi was then taken from Taupo but. because of its mechanically unsound condition, was abandoned outside Rotorua. The youths hitch-hiked into the township and. before converting another vehicle and driving to Auckland, broke into a butcher’s shop. Another car was taken at Auckland and driven back to Hamilton where it was
abandoned in favour of the final vehicle This car, said Mr Dwan. rolled over 20 miles south of Taupo and the youths were arrested by the local police. The car was damaged beyond repair to the extent of £6lO. Mr J. R. Drummond. S M., remanded the youths in custody to November 21 for sentence.
