TEACHERS’ PAY
Headmasters Up To £2165 (NZ. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Nov. 14. The top salary for a man who is principal of any of the largest post-primary schools in New Zealand is £2163, plus a married allowance of £7O. For a woman the salary is £2030. These figures were supplied by the Department of Education in reply to an inquirer who had listened to statements about the Inadequacy of teachers’ salaries made at a public meeting called by the Wellington and Hutt Valley regional associations of the Post-primary Teachers* Association. < The minimum salary for a teacher entering the postprimary service is £Bl5 for a man and £725 for a woman. The first , assistant in a large post-primary school receives £1720 (£1825 for a woman). In the primary service the top salary offered to the headmaster of a large school is £1720. The head of a large intermediate school receives £1735, plus his married allowance ot £7O. The minimum salary for a primary school teacher who has done three years’ training and received payment throughout that time is £640 for a man and £555 for a woman.
