FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—An anti-cyclone covering northern New Zealand is moving slowly eastwards and a trough of low pressure in the south-west Tasman Sea is advancing towards the South Island. Forecast:— Canterbury and Kaikoura Coast.—Moderate to fresh north-easterlies in coastal areas and fresh north-westerlies inland; weather fine, mild on the coast, warm inland. Outlook: showers spreading from the south. Marlborough, except Kaikoura coast.—Fresh to strong north-west winds; partly cloudy and warm. Outlook: possibly brief showers. West Coast—Moderate northerlies: cloudy and mild with occasional light showers, Outlook: rain developing. * CHRISTCHURCH READINGS
