Former Head Of Waitaki

(NX Pres* Association) DUNEDIN, Nov. 14. Mr Malcolm Leadbetter. rector of Waitaki Boys’ High School until his retirement last April, is to become an ordained minis* :r of the Presbyterian Church. The Genend Assembly of the church agreed today to hi* ordination and induction, a* soon a* he is appointed to a charge. Mr Leadbetter has been a distinguished cider of the church for many years, both of St Paul’s, Oamaru, and North Church, Invercargill. He was also an elder and session clerk rt Knox Church, Waimate. Born in Preston, England, in 1903, he was an outstand-

ing student at Wellington College, and graduated from Victoria University College with an M.A with honours in mathematics. Mr Leadbetter is one of the few men in the Dominion to have held three headmasterships. He was appointed rector at Waitaki in May, 1950. Before that he was rector of Southland Boys’ High School (1946 - 50), and Waimate High School (1936 - 45). At the time of his retirement he was the senior headmaster in the post-primary service. He was one of New Zealand’s foremost athletes of his day. During the Second World War, he became r lieutenantcolonel and was appointed a member of the directing staff of the Military Staff College, Palmerston North.
