Farmer Thought Drowned (HZ. Press Association) N. PLYMOUTH, Nov. 12. More than 25 police and civilians scoured rugged bush country on the banks of the Whenuakura river, near Eltham, today in an effort to find the body of a farmer who was presumed to have drowned in the river on Saturday afternoon. The missing man is Robert Lawrence Bell, aged about 40, married, of Omoana, about 25 miles from Eltham. More than a dozen police and farmers searched the banks of the river without success on Saturday night for a trace of the missing man and the search was intensified at daybreak today. By late tonight no trace of, the body had been found. The accident occurred at approximately 2 p.m. on Saturday, when Mr Bell, accompanied by his wife, was mustering sheep on his property, which borders the Whenuakura river. , Mr Bell Grosser' the river at a nearby ford and was last seen by his wife herding a number of sheep across the ford. Mrs Bell’s attention was distracted and when she looked back at the ford her husband had disappeared.
