ACCOMMODATION ON RUAPEHU

Board To Meet Organisations (N,Z. Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, Nov. 12. As a means of getting youth organisations to help themselves, the Tongariro National Park Board will invite various organisations to meet the board and discuss ways and means of establishing necessary lodge and hut accommodation on Mount Ruapehu. The organisations involved would be Boy Scouts, Boys' Brigade, Youth Hostel Association, Lone Canoeists’ Association, and many other established groups. A demand had already been set up in the southern area of Mount Ruapehu, said Mr B. R. Winchcombe at a meeting of the board at Ohakune on Saturday, and the board should point out the advantages of tile southern area as well as possible sites and areas on the already developed northern slopes. An application was made on behalf of the Youth Hostels’ Association seeking permission to use the old Salt Memorial Hut. The board also discussed plans for the replacement of the Salt Memorial Hut. Authority was given to go ahead with raising money to renew this hut.
