TEST AT BOMBAY

Good Start By England (NJZP.A-R«rtsr— CoplffigM) BOMBAY, November 11. G. Pullar and P. Richardson gave England a record start against India In the first test at Bombay today. The openers scored 159 in just under three hours, and England reached 288 tor three wickets before the close of play. The English batting was workmanlike rather than impressive. It was a valuable total, but England missed its opportunity to drive home early good fortune. The run-scoring rate of just under three an over was unimpressive In view of the easy-paced pitch, fast outfield, and lack of penetration in the bowling. The opening stand by Pullar and Richardson beat the previous record against India of 146 by Pullar himself and G Parkhouse at Leeds In 1939. Pullar was the more assured stroke-maker, his Innings of 83 including one six and 10 tours. Richardson, who made 71, experienced. a bad time early on, and was missed twice.
