Sutcliffe And L. D. Smith (N.Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN, Nov. 12. Centuries by B. Sutcliffe, of North-East Valley, and the Albion captain, L. D. Smith, with Smith’s 119 being scored in 73 minutes, and sensational bowling by E. J. Stephenson for Grange in taking six wickets for 13 runs in one innings and five for 33 in the second innings against Old Boys were the features of Dunedin senior cricket on Saturday. Sutcliffe’s 146 against Carisbrook was his second century of the season and although he gave a chance before he scored and two others after he passed his 50, the rest of his batting was superb. Smith came to the wicket against Kaikorai when his team had lost five for 119 and immediately began to hammer an attack headed by the Plunket Shield representatives N. T. Woods and F. W. Stanley all over the field. He hit eight sixes. Stephenson, better known as a New Zealand soccer player for a number of years, almost took Grange through to an outright win in one day with a fine exhibition of medium-paced bowling. Scores were:— Albion 295 (Smith 119, E. A. Watson 58) v. Kaikorai 84 for four wickets. University 144 (C. Croudis six for TO) v. Dunedin 124 for four (J. Johnston 53, J. Bray four for 32). Old Boys 69 (Stephenson five flor 13) and 102 for nine wickets (Stephenson five for 33) v. Grange 174 for nine declared. North-East Valley 318 for nine declared (Sutcliffe 146) v. Carisbrook. Malvern Matches Batsmen were on top for the first time this season when the Malvern cricket competitions were continued on Saturday. Two batsmen. R Ferrant (Darfield) and R, Stuart (South Malvern), scored centuries. South Malvern and Greendale played an exciting match. Greendale, chasing 232. scored 225 tor the loss of nine wickets at stumps. The South Malvern left-arm mediuib-paced bowler, G. Nltnmo. returned good figures for the third week in succession, with six wickets for 79 runs. Competition points are:—Darfleld 30 South Malvern 16, Sheffield 18, Klrwee-Unlted 1% Greendale 8. Scores were>— South Malvern 232 (R. Stuart IM, R. ‘Bison 32, D. .Cralb 16, B. Burborough 16, G- Ntauno 18; S. Kay- three for 34, J. Adams four for 103, C. Adams two for 171 drew with Greendale 225 for nine (C. Adams 41. J. Adams 73. S. Kay 63. P. Blakely two for 73 G. Nlmmo atx for 79). Dardeld 240 tor seven declared (R. Farrant 127, B. Lenlhan 40. J. Gunn 37; R. Morris two for right (G. Wright 71. R. Morris 50. D. Gunn IS, M. Johnston tour tor 45).
