Cuba Menaced By New Hurricane

MIAMI (Florida), Oct. 29. A new hurricane—named "Hattie” swept north towards Cuba today. The hurricane, with winds reaching 125 miles an hour, was the seventh of the current hurricane season. Forecasters said its centre would pass close to the Grand Cayman Island, 175 miles south of Cuba, .early tonight (Sunday) if it continued to move north at nine miles an hour as expected, the Asso. ciated Press reported. They warned that the hurricane could cause some
local flooding in Cuba and Jamaica. At 4 a.m. G.M.T. “Hattie’s” centre was about 350 miles south-west of Kingston, Jamaica. Gales extended 150 miles from the centre in all directions. Small craft in the western Caribbean were warned to stay in port, while larger vessels were asked to proceed with caution.
“Hattie,” which whirled to life late on Friday, was the eighth tropical storm of the current hurricane season and the seventh to reach fullfledged hurricane force. The season normally ends on about November 15.
