Supper To Mark End Of “Tosco” Tour
A crayfish and chicken supper, held to mark the elose erf the New Zealand Opera Company's Dominion tour of “rosea,” was attended by more than ’ 80 guests on Saturday evening. Organised by the New Zealand Arm of Godfrey Phillips, Ltd., one of the company's sponsors, the gathering was held after the last performance in the Majestic Theatre. Introduced by the chairman of Phillips's Christchurch executive (Mr Collins), the artistic director of the company (Mr Donald Munro) introduced the principal members of the cast of “Toeca.” Earlier, the opera's producer, Mr Cortis, had left New Zealand to return to Italy. The Mayor (Mr Manning)
and Mrs Manning attended the supper. Mrs Manning wore a short red brocade frock embossed with black under a black velvet evening coat. Other women present also chose short knee-length evening dresses, mostly in floral and brocade designs. Representatives of the company present included Mr Munro; the conductor of the opera orchestra, Messrs John Hopkins and Alex Lindsay; Mr Collins and Mrs Collins; resident producer, Mr J. Thompson; the company’s musical director in Christchurch, Mr Keith Newson and Mrs Newson; and the secretary-manager of the company for the Dominion, Mrs C. Scott. Members of the host firm present included one of the Dominion directors (Mr J. F. Wytoer) and Mrs Wyber; the South Island manager (Mr D. L Davies) and Mrs Davies; the Wellington sales manager (Mr L. W. Hipkins) and Mrs Hipkins; and the sales supervisor (,Mr A. G. Mitchell) and Mrs Mitchell.
