Plans For Next Year

The New Zealand Opera Company has an even bigger year ahead in 1962. After the final curtain call of the company’s 37-performance tour of “Tosca” on Saturday evening, Mr Donald Munro told the large audience that the company would produce “Carmen” and “The Barber of Seville” in the coming year, and a famous singer from the Sadlers Wells Opera Company had been engaged to take the title rle in “Carmen.” Her name has not ye* been announced. Praising the “magnificent” co-operation of all concerned in the “long,'> arduous season,” Mr Munro paid special tribute to the contribution made by the company’s guest producer and soloist, Marcello Cortis. It was already being planned to bring Mr Cortis back to New Zealand again in 1963, he said.
