VESSEL IN DISTRESS
Flying-Boat’s Search (NX. Press Assn.—Copynpftt) SUVA, October 22. An R.N.Z.A-F. Sunderland flying-boat at 2.40 pm. today located La Kendek in distress about 160 mile* west at New Caledonia. The ship. La Kendek. built in Australia for the Noumea Pilots' Association, was on her delivery voyage. The aircraft, captained by Flying Officer M J Mathieson. left Lauthala Bay. Fiji, at 5 am today for the search area and found La Kendek after a three-hour search. She later handed over the escort to an R.A.AF Neptune. A report from La Kendek mid she was taking in water forward and at one stage her screw was out of the water.
