The ship’s company of H.M.N.Z.S. Pegasus, Canterbury Division of the Royal New Zealand Naval Volunteer Reserve, held its annual ball last evening at headquarters. About 380 attended.
The ball programme began with a recital of dance music provided by the band of the Ist Battalion of the Canterbury Regiment, led by Captain D. I. Williams.
Specially-invited guests included officers and representatives of the ship’s company of H.M.N.Z.S. Rotoiti, now at Lyttelton; instructors and members of the permanent staff at H.M.N.Z.S. Pegasus; Captain J. N. Allan, R.N.Z.N.V.R. (retired) and Mrs Allan, the Resident Naval Officer and Staff Officer to the ship (Lieutenant Commander A. E. Newton, R.N.Z.N.) and Mrs Newton; the Chaplain to the Division (Rev. P. N. Wright) and Mrs Wright; and the Commanding Officer of H.M.N.Z.S. Pegasus (Commander R. M. J. O’Connor) and Mrs O’Connor.
The canteen committee, which organised the ball, comprised Engine Room Artificers E. D. Retallic and R. T. Downs, Ordinary Seamen R. T. Bartlett, A. D. Wilson and P, E. Morris, Able Seamen R. V. Williams and B. A. Christenson, Mechanical Engineer B. J. Butts, Supply Assistant. S. G. Brown. Radio Operator P. G. Sharpe, Sub-Lieutenant P. W. Bowen, Lieutenant G. P. Eggleton. Lieutenant Commanders P. D. O’Meegan and R. F. Sanderson (chairman).
