MAN FOUND BY SEARCH PARTY
A Ministry of Works employee stationed at Otira who failed to make his way out of the bush by darkness on Tuesday after setting out to shoot deer was found by a search party and accompanied down from about 3000 ft, reaching the Otira settlement again about 2 a.m. the next day. The man. William Dalgliesh, aged 24. was reported missing by a workmate, Mr R. Downs, at 9 p.m. He had set out at 5 p.m. to shoot a stag which he had sighted high up on a slip on Goat Hill (4000 ft behind the settlement. Constable M. F. Direen, of Otira, organised a search party, and the missing man answered shots fired by members of the party at 10.15 p.m. Mr Dalgliesh was found at a height of about 3000 ft. He had been overtaken by fog on the mountain, and the night was particularly dark, with no moon. He was reached by members of the search party shortly after midnight.
