CONTROL OF SCHOOLS

Sub-Committee To Watch Changes A sub-committee to watch any change in the control of schools was set up by the board of governors of the Christchurch Boys’ High School on Thursday afternoon. The board was discussing a report on the recent conference of the Post-primary School Boards’ Association, at which the Minister of Education (Mr Tennent) said that he intended to abolish the Governor-General’s representation on school boards and post-primary school councils. Mr K. A. Gough said that a fait accompli should be guarded against. The question should not be decided just by the Education Department’s convenience. The sub-committee, which is made up of Mr Gough and Mr R. K. Milne, will study any information announced by the Government about changes.
