(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) SYDNEY, October 5. Entry of the United Kingdom into the European Common Market would have a damaging effect on Austra. lia’s apple and pear export market, according to the Australian Apple and Pear Board.
The annual report of the board, released today, said that if Australia is faced with a system of reverse tariff preferences and quantitative restrictions, Italy, a member of the Common Market would gain a considerable advantage. The report said that the future of the Australian industry depended to a large extent on maintenance of the existing apple and pear trade with the United Kingdom and Europe.
