Pit Stops
Rumours that Japan will soon enter international G.P. racing are getting stronger. The latest is that representatives of the well known Honda concern have approached B. McLaren with a proposal that he drive for them next season, but there is no confirmation as yet. There have also been rumours that the concern bought a new Lotus to study, but, as one British motoring writer remarked, it is unlikely that the firm would sell a machine for this.
The Canterbury Car Club held the first of the new season's trials last week-end, when. 22 com-< petitors took part in an! afternoon event over 55; miles in the Christchurch,; Tai Tapu, and Motukarara , area. A few cars missed a; small turning in the Tai; Tapu section and were late < for the rest of the section. ] L. I* Hayes (Ford Cus-; tom 300) came first with < 109 points lost, B. T. An-1 drews (Morris 1000) was; second with 115 points; lost, and N. L. Rowe. (Austin 850), with 178; points lost, was third.; Fourth place went to A. I Prattley in a Herald, and 1 B. R. Blackburn, in an; Anglia, came fifth. A team of New Zealand! racing drivers will go to! Sydney next month to; appear at the first meeting; ot the season on the new! Warwick Farm circuit As! yet no drivers have been! named, but it is expected there will be no difficulty in selecting a team. The request for the drivers came from the Australian Automobile Racing Club, which controls Warwick ; Farm.
