EARTHQUAKE THEORY

World Authority’s Views The theory that earthquakes occur in three-year cycles was received with scepticism by Professor K. E Bullen, an international authority on seismology, in Christchurch last evening. Professor Bullen said the theory had possibilities, but it would have to “run the gauntlet of mathematical investigation" before it received recognition. The theory has been developed by Dr. P. A. Siple, an American Antarctic scientist. He spoke about his theory in Wellington on Tueaday.

Professor Bullen gave his views on the theory when he addressed the mathematdeh and physics section of the Chrietchurch branch of the Royal Society.
