Inauiries At Westport (N.Z. Press Association) ' WESTPORT. October 1. The following inquiries were held at the Westport Jockey Club's meeting on Saturday:— Cliff Thomas Stakes No. 1 Bert, ridden by R J.-Skel-ton, starting from a wide barrier position was able to get over close to the running rail after travelling a .furlong. Skelton, when questioned, said that though his mount was full of running, he had no opportunity during the race as he was hemmed in. Roche Hack Handicap M. J. Skelton, rider of Tocsin, was in difficulties durin" the race as a result of b’ mount hanging, and he could not prevent her running wide turning for home. Licensed Victuallers’ Handicap Ocean Melody, ridden by B. J. Anderton, was about to run up on the outside of Subside, ridden by W H Beck, two furlongs from home when the horse's legs went from under him causing him to fall Anderton, who was not injured, said the incident was accidental. This was confirmed by the assistant stipendiary steward. Mr D. Spicer, who was on duty at that point Ocean Melody was not injured. Cliff Thomas Stakes No. 2 F. E. Heneberry. rider of Speciality, to avoid getting on the heels of Puff two furlongs from home, nulled her out quickly and she slipped and fell. Henneberry who was not iniured. confirmed the view of the a’sis'ant stipendiary steward thst the hannening was acciden'al The track where both falls took place was inspected bv the •'ipendiary steward. Mr H B. Lorigan. and found to be in excellent order. Speciality was not injured.
