Wood Starting Stalls

(From Our Own Reporter) WESTPORT. October 1.

The Wood starting stalls were used for the first time on the West Coast of the South Island on the opening day of the Westport Jockey Club's meeting on Saturday and operated without a hitch.

However, after the main event, the Licensed Victuallers’ Handicap, there was a slight delay in clearing the equipment off the track. But trouble was avoided and the horses received a clear run past the mile and a quarter starting point. Some horses were inclined to be shy about entering the stalls but the starter. Mr B. H. Morris, was patient In two of the maiden races some horses started in the open on the outside. In every race the despatches were very even.
