TERRITORIAL VOLUNTEERS
‘Backbone’ Of New Force
WELLINGTON, October 1. Present Territorial volunteers of all ranks would provide the backbone of the new Territorial Force to be brought to strength over the next four years by a system of selective national service, said the Adjutant-General (Brigadier W. S. McKinnon) yesterday. Volunteers would provide the officers, n.c.o.'s and experienced soldiers for the Territorial Force.
Their knowledge and training would be an essential factor in enabling the Territorial Force to absorb and mould into efficient units the drafts of trained national servicemen which will eome from the selective service scheme, he said. ba cases where units had been reduced or disbanded special provision was being made to absorb volunteers into rther units. said Brigadier McKinnon.
