ELECTRICAL UNION
Expulsion By Labour Party
(N .Z.P.A .-Reuter—CowrigM) BLACKPOOL (England), September 30.
The Labour Party’s national executive committee decided yesterday by an almost unanimous vote to expel immediately the 240.000-strong Electrical Trades Union from the Labour movement. This means that the E.T.U. will have to withdraw its delegation from the party’s annual conference this week. The Labour Party’s expulsion decision was made after the committee, the governing body, had heard a report from Mr Hugh Gaitskell, the party leader, who headed a special inquiry subcommittee.
Mr Gaitskell set up the inquiry after a recent High Court case in which Mi Justice Winn remarked that the union was managed and controlled by the Communist Party to serve that party’s ideals.
The party’s annual conference will be asked to vote on a special report recording the executive’s decision when it opens on Monday.
