"In a country where livestock alone outnumber human beings by 20 to one, New Zealanders should be well aware of our almost complete dependence on animals, and of our moral responsibility for their proper care.” The Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) said this today in a message to Mr G M Spence, of Blenheim, who is secretary of the New Zealand Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Mr Snor.ce had asked the Prime Minister for a statement to coincide with the launching of Animal Week, which is observed in New Zealand during the first week of October Mr Holyoake said that most New Zealanders were inclined to overlook the country’s dependence on animals and the responsibility for their complete care It was well that we should be reminded of this fact
