New Brighton Totalisator
Sir,—l wish to complain about the pay-out after the last race at the New Brighton Trotting Club meeting on September 16. After standing in a long queue, I was told they could not pay out. I was told to go to the main totalisator. This I did. After having three more windows shut in my face, with a retort of “no more fivers here,” I eventually got my dividend. To say the least, I was very disgusted. I know it was an exceptionally large dividend, but had they packed the money away before the last race was over so that the tellers would not be late for tea? What of the punters’ tea?—Yours, etc., MARY DOYLE. September 21, 1961. [The secretary of the New Brighton Trotting Club (Mr D. C. Parker) said: “The club is very interested in the complaint and it would be appreciated if the correspondent would call and see the totalisator manager at the club’s office, so that an investigation can be made.”} Sir,—l and many other regular patrons of the New Brighton Trotting Club wish to know why they have taken away the £1 window from the doubles totalisator building. It appears to be a poor move as it causes needless congestion, more tickets have to be issued—taking longer and costing more. On Saturday several patrons were shut out needlessly. This club is the only one, I think, that has not .a £1 window and it is only recently that it has been taken off. —Yours, etc., H. THEAKSTON. September 19, 1961. [The secretary of the New Brighton Trotting Club (Mr D. C. Parker) said: “As the electric doubles totalisator was modified to issue 10s tickets as well as 5s tickets, manual selling was eliminated except for the one £5 window. The committee of the club is at present investigating the possibility of improving the doubles betting facilities.’’]
