FIRST AID POSTS
Possibility In
Canterbury
Roadside first aid posts may be established in Canterbury. At a meeting of the Can. terbury and West Coast centre of St. John Ambulance Association on Tuesday evening the chairman (Mr W. A. McAllister) said he had begun inquiries about such facilities and had received unofficial advice of suoport from the Transport Department in Canterbury. The posts will probably be put in garages or shops that remain open for most hours of the day. Mr W J Smith, of Fairlie, suggested that they be sited at the scene of past accidents and at dangerous corners. Mr McAllister disagreed with this because of possible loss of equipment through theft. Another suggestion was made that the posts be in private houses. Several delegates ,disagreed with this as the house owner might be asked to administer first aid when unqualified..
After a set was shown at the meeting Dr. H. E. W. Roberton of Christchurch suggested that the dressing be at the type used in the army. He thought there would be considerable wastage if rolls of cotton wool and bandages were placed Ln the first aid pits. ‘‘The scheme is worthy if if -cad be worked,” said Mr McAllister.
