Mistake Over Broadcast

(N.Z. Press Association)

WELLINGTON, Sept. 21. Police were mystified today when they received several telephone calls from people who believed that they had heard a radio message reporting the discovery of the body of the missing Lower Hutt girl, Miss Wendy Catherine Mayes. Checks with 2YA and 2ZB disclosed that no such broadcast had been made. However, a children’s programme from 9 to 9.30 a.m. had discussed New Zealand gold-digging days and mention had been made in it of a prospector unearthing a body. The callers had heard this section of the programme and mistaken it for part of a broadcast on the Mayes search.
