Oamaru Experiment In Hospital Visiting Hours

OAMARU, Sept. 21. Visiting at the Oamaru Hospital the maternity annex excluded, for the next six months will be from 11 a.m to 7 p.m. daily. The new times, which will become effective immediately, are to be rigidly enforced. Only one other hospital In New Zealand. Buller, operates a similar scheme

The Oamaru project is to be given a six-months’ trial. The present visiting hours are daily, except Mondays and Thursdays, from 230 p.m to 330 pm. and on Monday and Thursday evenings from 7 to 730 o'clock. Conditions to be attached to the trial scheme are that

children will be permitted on Sundays only, that visitors leave the wards for doctors’ visits or when nurses wish to carry out treatment, that ward routine be carried out as usual, and that visiting patients be prohibited when doctors advise against it The decision on extended visiting hours was reached by the Waitaki Hospital Board after a report by the matron (Miss L. Olorenshawi, made with the approval of the surgeonsuperintendent (Mr C L. Tucker). Miss Olorenshaw, in her report. said that this type of visiting was permitted in England with great success.
