UNAUTHORISED CAR SALES
“Some Cases Being Investigated” (K2. Press Association) WELLINGTON. Sept 21. Persons obtaining a motorcar by a non-remittance licence signed a declaration that they would not dispose of the car for two years and disposal of the ear in breach of the declaration was an offence, said the Minister of Customs (Mr Marshall) in a written reply to a question by Mr D. Maclntyre (Government, Hastings), who had asked for an inquiry into the sale at substantial profit of "new used" cars with barely more than delivery mileages recorded. Mr Marshall said that several cases were under investigation, and legal action would be taken in cases where there was evidence of unauthorised sale within the two-year period. The Minister of Transport (Mr McAlpine), in a written reply, said he was not disposed to have speedometer readings and purchase prices recorded in motor-car ownership papers at change of ownership "without giving a great deal of further consideration." He was replying to a question by Mr A. E. Allen (Government, Franklin). Mr McAlpine said he questioned whether either requirement would provide a reliable record and be in the best interests of the purchaser.
