HOSPITAL MAY CLOSE
Shortage Of Staff At Te Puke
(N.Z Press Association) TAURANGA, Sept. 21. The Tauranga Hospital Board decided today that if s*aff could not be obtained for Te Puke Hospital it would have to be closed.
The board sent a telegram to the Director-General of Health saying that owing to lack of trained staff it has resolved that no nev patien's would be’admitted to the hospital after Monday. The Director of Nursing was notified of the position on Tuesday.
The medical superintendent (Dr. D. P. Short) told the board that from Monday there would be only the ma’ron, two part-time sisters and three trainee nurses at the hospital. “This means the matron will be on call seven nights a week and at week-ends," said Dr. Short.
