Farmer Flees On Tractor

(N .7. J>. A.-Reuter—Copyright) BRUNSWICK (West Germany), Sept. 21

An East German farmer, apparently about to spread fertiliser on a frontier field, suddenly turned his tractor and trailer westwards and drove across the border into West Germany yesterday, reports the West German news agency, D.P.A. East German border police were caught unawares. When the farmer reached safety, his wife and four children, aged from two to 12, climbed out from the fertiliser. Another farmer and his family in a nearby region of the Harz Mountains drove to the border over a roundabout route yesterday, dashed across the East German ploughed strip on the frontier, dodged police bullets and found refuge in the West.
