DISARMAMENT “PENITENCE”

Day’s Vigil Outside Church (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, September 26 Auckland supporters of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament held ’a day-long “vigil of penitence” outside the Pitt Street Methodist Church yesterday. The vigil lasted from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., but most of the vigil keepers stood in "shifts” of an hour each. With an occasional passerby joining the vigil for a few minutes, there were about l.alf a dozen persons in front of the church during the morning. There were no incidents during the morning. The minister of the church, the Rev. R. F. Clement, said: “Although I am not a member of the movement, I feel that what they are trying to do is right. I couldn’t say no when they asked if they could come here.”
