MANGERE MIDGE PROBLEM
Research Of Value To Christchurch
Measures adopted by the Auckland Metropolitan Drainage Board to control midges at its Mangere sewage treatment works would not be appropriate in Christchurch, although the research there had led to conclusions which would probably enable effective steps to be taken in Christchurch if necessary, Mr D. L. Steven, the sewage treatment engineer, reported to the Christchurch Drainage Board on Tuesday evening. Commenting on his visit to Auckland, Mr Steven said control measures introduced there after research by an officer of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research had proved most effective so far. although no conclusions could be drawn on the'long-term effect.
