Christian Drama Festival: Final Programme
The Festival of Christian Drama held this week by the Christchurch Religious Drama Society ended last evening with another wellchosen programme., “The Miracle,” which was oresented by the St Stephen's Young Wives' Drama Group, was the only play in the festival with a strongly defined medieval atmosphere, and the cast had some success in capturing the spirit of time long past This drama group has players with a variety of talent, and Heather McCarthy, Margery Elliott and Joy Wild gave good performances
The St. Bartholomew’s Drama Group chose a more conventional play in “Sunrise Over Olivet.” There was a certain monotony in the action of the play itself: bu' the detail and the use of colour in the setting gave a pleasant effect Not all members of the cast, however. were quite eoual to their parts, although the women acted well "Symphony in Illusion," the final play, offered a considerable range of interest. There is some subtlety here in the discussion of strife among Individuals and war between nations. A simple but clever decor added greatly to the effect of the play. All those taking part were confident and each point in the debate was dearly made. Joy Soooner. Stella Cameron, and Yvonne Byrne should be specially men'ioned. “Symphony in Illusion” was presented by the St. Thomas's Drama Group. At the end of the festival, the judge (Mrs Wendy de la Here) announced her awards as follows: Best team-work. St. Thomas’s Drama Group,
