Parliamentary Salaries

Sir,—Mr Holyoake said at Dannevirke that the Govern, ment might have to take stronger measures to protect the economy of the country. Two days previously these gentlemen quite readily took about £16,000 in salaries and allowances. As the Government has appointed an Economic Council, at £lO 10s a day for three professors for every day they sit, to do the Ministers’ work for them, it seems the less they do the more they receive. What will She school teachers think after the cold reception they received when they rightly asked for better conditions— Yours, etc.,
