Photographic Salon

Sir,—ln the interests of historical accuracy I would like to point out that in the foreword of the catalogue of, the twelfth New Zealand International Salon of Photography, now being held in the art gallery, it is stated that this is the first time colour prints have been exhibited at these salons. This is contrary to fact, as the

first colour prints were shown at the sixth NeW Zealand International Salon, in 1949 (which was conducted by the Waikato Society) and were exhibited in eight cities, from Auckland to Invercargill. These first colour prints were produced by a three-colour broftioil transfer process by a member of our local photographic society.—Yours, etc., TRUTH.

September 15. 1961. [The president of the Photographic Society of New Zealand (Mr L. A. Thomas) said: “It is quite correct that colour prints have been exhibited in a'number of New Zealand international salons. • but this is the first time since the inception of the Photographic Society of New'Zealand that there has been the three separate competitive sections colour prints, nature prints, and monochrome prints.”]
