MATCH AGAINST WELLINGTON

Team To Consist Of 19 Players

The Canterbury Rugby team to play Wellington at Wellington on September 30 will consist of 19 players instead of the usual 17. Mr A. J. Johnson said at a meeting of the management committee of the Canterbury Rugby Union last evening that he thought it would be wise to have four emergencies against such a strong province .as Wellington. He said he felt that in view of Canterbury’s excellent record of unbeaten matches the team to travel to Wellington should have more than the two reserves.

The president <Mr H. C. Blazey) said that the players had responded well in the southern tour and had made themselves available. Because of this the union could allow more emergencies for the Wellington game. Mr Blazey said that the decision to send 19 players need not sei a precedent. The committee next year could do as it wished in the matter of emergencies.

Mr S. R. Southall was appointed manager of the Canterbury team to play Wellington.
