Dominion Monarch Master’s View

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. Sept. 19. The master of the liner Dominion Monarch (Captain K. D. G. Fisher) who is on his last voyage, said at Auckland today that he would not go to sea if he had his life to live over ?gain. He arrived in the liner today on its second-last voyage before going to the ship breakers. “The sea is a good life,” Captain Fisher said. “It has its advantages but you miss an awful lot. In 29 years I have had five Christmases at home.”

Captain Fisher was chief officer of the Akaroa when he was awarded the George Medal for bringing two mpn. one of whom was dead, out of a smoke-filled hold without a respirator while the ship was in port. He took command of the Dominion Monarch in 1955.
