WANGANELLA’S FUTURE

Speculation After Take-Over Bid (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Sept. 19. Auckland shipping circles are speculating about the future of the trans-Tasman liner Wanganella after the announcement of a take-over bid for the Huddart Parker Line by Bitumen and Oil Refineries Australia, Ltd. If the take-over comes about, Huddart Parker's shipping interests will be sold to Mcllwraith and McEacharn, a Sydney shipping firm.

The Wanganella is due for an expensive four-Year survey in three years’ time. Questions being asked in Auckland are: will the liner be kept on until the survey and, if so. will-she be economic to run afterwards? The replacement of the ship would cost £3 million.
