False Returns Of Income (NZ. Press Association) GISBORNE, Sept. 19. A farmer. George William Roach, aged 50. who admitted seven charges of wilfully making false returns of income during the years 1951-57, was fined a total of £l7O by Mr L. N. Ritchie, S.M.. at Gisborne today. Mr T. M. Thorp, for the Commissioner of Inland Revenue, said Roach kept very poor records. His declared income for 1951-57 was £5OOO. “It is now assessed at £14.000.” Mr Thorp said it appeared to be a bad case of suppression of income but Roach had since paid almost £3OOO in back tax.
