LONDON, Sept 16. The Australian golfer, Peter Thomson, became the “ehampion of champions” when he won the Dunlop Masters' golf tournament ever the windewept Royal Porthrawl links. New South Wales, today. It was his farewell event in Britain this season—he flies home on Tuesday—and with rounds of 70. 71, 72, and 71 and an aggregate of 284. he outstripped the top-flight British professionals, including the 10-tnan Ryder Cup team. to win by eight strokes. C. O’Connor (Royal Dublin) was second, with 292. having final rounds of 74 and 73.

D. Thomas (Sunningdale) was third, with 293. Thomson took the first

prize at £l9OO to increase his winnings in British tournaments this year to nearly £4500—£2705 of which be has won in the last four weeks.

Thomson played superbly through gale-force winds, and by the end of the third round had increased his overnight one-stroke lead to a margin of five strokes. His nearest rival, Thomas, was only the second player to break 70 today, his 68 being one stroke outside the course record.

Thomson's fellow Australian, Kel Nagle, lying second when play was resumed today, fell with a 76. Thomson made only one error over the last five holes, when he bunkered at the long seventeenth to take a five. He gained an aggregate of 284, which gave him a win by eight strokes from O’Connor, who finished with a 73 for 292. Nagle holed a putt of three yards on the home green for a four, for an inward 40, which gave him a 77, and an aggregate of 295. He tied for fourth place with P. Alliss (Parkstone).
