Jack Nicklaus, aged 21. said today he would not turn professional after his win yesterday in the final of the United States amateur golf championship at Pebble Beach. Professionals who saw Nicktaus win his second United States title in three years said he would be an Immediate success on the professional circuit. But Nickfaus. a 6ft 16-stone redhead, said he would continue as a student at Ohio State University. and remain an amateur. American Associated Press said Tremendous Drives Nicklaus. despite rain, hit tremendous drives, and putted unerringly to take an early lead over D. Wysong (Texas), who Is 22. The further they went, the fu-ther Niklaus went ahead. He won 8 up, with six holes to play, after being 4 up at the end of 18 holes. Proof of Nicklaus’s golf strength is seen in that over the whole of the tournament, he was about 20 strokes under par.
